Bread Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk*
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon molasses

Coating Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Note: You can make your own buttermilk substitute by combining 1/2 cup whole milk with 1/2 teaspoon of white vinegar.

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Prepare the Bread Batter:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine canola oil, softened butter, and sugar until well combined.
    • Stir in the eggs and vanilla extract until smooth.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt) and buttermilk, alternating between the two, and stirring until a smooth batter forms.
    • Set aside 1/2 cup of the batter in a separate bowl. Add cinnamon and molasses to this portion and mix well.

    Assemble the Bread:

      • Grease a loaf pan with baking spray.
      • Pour half of the plain bread batter into the loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
      • Spoon half of the cinnamon/molasses batter on top of the plain batter.
      • Add the remaining plain batter on top, followed by the remaining cinnamon/molasses batter.
      • Use a butter knife or toothpick to gently swirl the batters together.

      Bake:

        • Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
        • Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool in the loaf pan for 10 minutes.

        Prepare the Coating:

          • In a shallow dish, combine melted butter, sugar, and brown sugar, along with ground cinnamon, stirring until well mixed.

          Coat the Bread:

            • Remove the bread from the loaf pan and dip each side into the melted butter mixture until fully coated.
            • Sprinkle additional sugar-cinnamon mixture on top of the bread for an extra touch of sweetness.

            Serve and Enjoy:

              • Slice the Cinnamon Sugar Donut Sweet Bread and serve warm.
              • Enjoy the irresistible combination of flavors with each bite!
