Ingredients

For the Wonton Chips:

  • 1 (12-ounce) package wonton wrappers
  • Cooking spray

For the Crab Rangoon Dip:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar, Swerve, or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • ¼ cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 2 (6-ounce) cans crab meat, drained (or equivalent imitation crab meat)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 green onions, minced
  • 1 tablespoon green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the Wonton Chips:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Cut each wonton wrapper in half diagonally, then cut each triangle in half again to form smaller triangles.
    • Lightly spray the wonton triangles with cooking spray and arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet.
    • Bake for 7-8 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Set aside. Keep the oven on.
  2. Prepare the Dip:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, Parmesan cheese, crab meat, ½ cup of the mozzarella cheese, garlic, salt, pepper, and minced green onions.
    • Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness, salt, or lemon juice if needed.
  3. Assemble and Bake:
    • Transfer the dip mixture to a casserole dish or oven-safe skillet.
    • Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup mozzarella cheese evenly on top.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until the dip is hot and bubbly.
    • Switch to the broiler for 2-4 minutes to achieve a golden brown top.
  4. Serve:
    • Garnish with sliced green onions and serve warm with the crispy wonton chips.

Tips

  • Crab Meat Options: Fresh crab meat adds extra flavor, but canned or imitation crab meat works well for convenience.
  • Wonton Chips: Keep a close eye on the chips while baking to avoid burning.
  • Make-Ahead: Prepare the dip mixture in advance and refrigerate. Bake just before serving.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Cheese Variations: Substitute mozzarella with Monterey Jack or cheddar for a different flavor profile.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use gluten-free crackers or chips instead of wonton wrappers.
  • Spicy Twist: Add a dash of hot sauce or minced jalapeños for a kick.

FAQs

Can I use fresh crab meat?
Yes! Fresh crab meat provides a richer flavor but ensure it’s fully cooked and free of shells.

Can this be made without wonton chips?
Absolutely. Serve with tortilla chips, pita chips, or fresh veggies like celery or bell peppers.

How do I store leftovers?
Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.

Serving Suggestions

  • Pair the dip with wonton chips, tortilla chips, crackers, or toasted baguette slices.
  • Add fresh veggie sticks like cucumbers, carrots, or bell peppers for a lighter option.
